Update Tickets
There’s a Better Way

The Railroad Commission of Texas enforces the Texas Administrative Code Chapter 18 rules which apply to all persons engaged in or preparing to engage in the movement of earth
in the vicinity of an underground pipeline containing flammable, toxic, or corrosive gas, a hazardous liquid,
or carbon dioxide. When these rules became effective in
September 2007,
and it’s time to refresh the locate ticket and markings. A Normal ticket type will allow modifications to the work site locate instructions and may reduce the amount of time locators will need to refresh the marks. An Update or Update & Remark ticket type option does not allow any changes and may require the locators to return to the worksite and re-mark the entire area
they established

excluding Saturday,
Sunday, or legal
holiday. The intent
of an expiration
date is to provide
pipeline operators,
and their locators,
the opportunity to
return to an ongoing
project and ensure
that the temporary locate markings are still visible or re-mark if necessary.
Requesting or selecting the correct type of locate ticket will assist locators when the scope of work or area of excavation has changed for your ongoing project
Instead of requesting or selecting an Update or Update & Remark ticket type, choose a Normal ticket type...
again even if only a portion of the worksite needs to be re-marked for your ongoing project.
Instead of requesting or selecting an Update or Update & Remark ticket type, choose a Normal ticket type and help significantly reduce the amount of valuable time wasted locating areas where no future work is the be conducted.
Below are some helpful steps to follow when choosing a Normal
ticket type for your ongoing project.

Steps to follow when choosing a Normal ticket type for your ongoing project.
Texas811 Portal User:
(1) Log in to the Texas811 Portal.
(2) Select “Find Tickets” and search for your current ticket.
(3) Select “Copy” located in the top bar of your ticket. Your ticket type will automatically be set to Normal.
(4) Verify all contact information is accurate and up to date.
(5) Verify work information is correct and add Address (if necessary), Street Name, and Intersection information.
(6) Modify driving directions (if necessary) and work site locate instructions to inform locators of the area where excavation will continue to occur and locate markings need to be refreshed.
(7) Change your mapping to mirror the marking instructions.
(8) Add any helpful information to assist the locator in the “Additional Information” section of the locate ticket.
(9) Submit
