Texas811 and the DPC of Texas Working Again with the Texas Oilfield Angels: To Take Care of Our Own
By Tina Sanders
YTexas811 Damage Prevention Manager
ou may recall our feature last Fall highlighting the Texas Oilfield Angels (TOA), a non-profit organization
created to give back to the oilfield by providing financial assistance to injured or fatally injured oilfield workers and/ or their families. Texas811 and the Damage Prevention Council of Texas (DPC) have been honored to be part of this noble cause through sponsorship and volunteerism at their bi-annual fundraising events.
These events provide Texas811 and the DPC of Texas the unique opportunity to support the hard-working people that bring us the oil and gas that America relies on. Our volunteers especially
love the ‘split-pot’ Backhoe Rodeo, a family friendly fundraiser event critical to the TOA cause. Both experienced equipment operators and novices ages 5 and up may participate in a safe
and secure environment overseen by qualified volunteers. Midcoast Energy’s Shade Spencer, who also serves as President of the East Texas Chapter was instrumental in building the rodeo
course, demonstrating his commitment to both TOA and the DPC. The Spring Crawfish Boil & Backhoe Rodeo was sponsored by DPC member companies Midcoast Energy, Center Point
Energy, Heath Consultants, Metronet, LineQuest, Private Solutions, and Standard Utility, providing a platform for our damage prevention volunteers to answer questions and discuss safe digging practices while working around underground pipelines and utilities. Billy Jack Sprayberry, Rusk County Road & Bridge won the adult event
and donated his winnings back to the TOA, while his son Jacob won the ‘Excavators in Training’ award. We’re proud to report that our East Texas Chapter raised $1590 in donations at the Backhoe Rodeo, directly benefiting TOA’s mission to help oilfield families in their time of need.
DPC and TOA would like to invite everyone to TOA’s Fall fundraiser, the People’s Choice Cook-Off which will be held September 24th, 2022, at the Rusk Co Expo Center in Henderson, Texas. For more information go online and visit the Texas Oilfield Angels website. We look forward to seeing you there!
